What's the story?

According to AS, Real Madrid and Porto's Eder Militao have reached a verbal agreement that will see the Spanish giants cough up €50 million to trigger his release clause.

The move is expected to take place this summer and the 21-year-old will sign a contract with Madrid until the summer of 2025.

In case you didn't know...

In the ongoing transfer window, Porto defender Eder Militao has emerged as one of the hot prospects who has caught the eye of the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Militao has only played half a season in Europe as he joined Porto from Sao Paulo in the summer last year. His contract with the Portuguese club expires in June 2023.

The heart of the matter...

Real Madrid have held a long-term interest in former Sao Paulo ace, but they have decided to step up their pursuit courtesy of interest from other clubs and the increasing prices. The defender's buyout clause will rise to €75 million in June this year.

10% of €50 million being paid by Real Madrid will go to Sao Paulo, who held that percentage on any future sale of the player. Militao’s agent, Giuliano Bertolucci, confirmed that Militao’s will not be making a move in the winter transfer window.

"There is no possibility of the player leaving his current club in the winter market," he said earlier this week.

"We’re not ruling out his signing for Real Madrid in the summer."

Rumour rating: 7/10

AS is a decent source when it comes to Spanish transfer news. Besides, Real Madrid are looking to go through a major overhaul after a torrid start this season and Militao is the perfect man for this turnaround.
