What's the story?

According to the media outlet, Evening Standard, Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez is set to join Arsenal on loan for the remainder of the season. The report suggests that the Catalan club has agreed on a loan fee of €2.5 million with the Gunners.

The Spanish midfielder has a contract until 2020 with the Spanish giants. According to the report, the Spaniard will sign a new deal with La Blaugrana, followed by the official announcement of his London move.

In case you didn't know..

The 25-year-old has been a top priority for the Arsenal boss. Transfer talks between the two clubs broke down as the Catalans preferred a permanent transfer, and the Gunners, due to financial issues, insisted on a loan move.

LaLiga rivals, Real Betis and his former club Sevilla were willing to pay in the region of €15-20 million to secure the services of the Spaniard. However, the central-midfielder preferred a move to Arsenal in order to reunite with his former boss, Unai Emery. The latter is known to be a great admirer of the Spanish playmaker since they worked together at Sevilla.

Denis Suarez had previously featured for Manchester City before making a move to the Catalan club.

The heart of the matter

With the increasing depth in Ernesto Valverde's midfield, the 25-year-old has found himself down the pecking order at the Camp Nou. This season, the Spaniard has made only 2 LaLiga appearances, and is certainly out of favour under the Spanish tactician.

During his tenure with the LaLiga giants, the playmaker has scored 8 goals and provided 11 assists. The former Sevilla man has failed to become the top choice for the Catalans, and insisted on a move to Arsenal where he will try to reignite his career with his former boss at the helm.

Rumour rating: 8/10

This transfer deal would benefit all the parties involved. Despite struggling with financial issues, the Gunners would strengthen their squad for the crucial stages of the season, and the Spaniard could reignite his career in a different league.

What's next?

Unai Emery's men are fighting for a top four spot, currently they occupy the fifth spot on the league table - 13 points adrift of the top, and behind their local rivals, Chelsea, on goal difference.

It is expected that the signing of Denis Suarez would be officially announced later today.
