Reports: Arsenal target Daniel Sturridge to solve striker problem

Daniel Sturridge
Will he leave Anfield in the summer?

Arsenal’s title challenge once again faded away and the Gunners are now hoping to cement their place in the top four. It has become a very familiar tale for the fans who have become frustrated at how their team keeps underachieving year after year.

Wenger’s team were on top of the table at Christmas and he was urged to spend money on a top striker in January to ensure Arsenal had the firepower to continue their title challenge. But he didn’t and Olivier Giroud’s failings was the consequence of that lack of spending.

But the Frenchman is ready to rectify that mistake in the summer. According to reports, the Gunners are planning a bid for Daniel Sturridge after the player's status at his club is the subject of speculation.

Jurgen Klopp is apparently unsure if he is the right player to lead the line for Liverpool next season. The German had a preference for Divock Origi when the striker was fit. The Belgian rediscovered his form under Klopp and also has a higher work rate.

So it remains to be seen who the manager will prefer once Origi is fit. Sturridge has been in good form and is still scoring goals for his team but there is also an injury concern with the Englishman which both clubs will be looking at.

Sturridge has played 13 league games so far and has scored 8 times. His most prolific season for Liverpool was during the 2013/14 when Liverpool lost the league to Manchester City in heartbreaking fashion.

Sturridge racked up 21 goals in 29 matches that season. He and Luis Suarez managed 52 goals between them to lead the Reds to a second-placed finish. Since the Uruguayan left the club for Barcelona, the former Chelsea striker has struggled for fitness.

He missed a majority of last season as well, playing only 12 games scoring 4 times. Sturridge was left on the bench in the first leg against Villarreal as Klopp preferred playing Roberto Firmino as the false nine.

But in the home leg at Anfield, he played a vital role as Liverpool ran out 3-0 winners to advance to the final of the Europa League where they will be playing Sevilla. Arsenal are reportedly willing to pay £30 million for Sturridge but Liverpool value him higher than that.

Sturridge's idol is Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and him moving to London might give him the chance to try and emulate his hero.
