What's the rumour?

According to The Guardian and BeIN Sports, current Bundesliga top scorer and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic has agreed to terms with Barcelona. However, Barcelona is yet to agree a deal with either Jovic's parent club Benfica or Frankfurt who have stated their intention to make his loan deal permanent, as per reports. The transfer is now highly likely to happen in the summer.

In case you didn't know...

Eintracht Frankfurt youngster Luka Jovic has been an absolute revelation this season. He is currently topping the Bundesliga goalscoring charts with 14 goals in 15 starts and 4 appearances as a substitute.

He has outdone the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Timo Werner, Marco Reus and Paco Alcacer. He is currently at Eintracht Frankfurt on loan from Benfica.

The heart of the matter

Luka Jovic has been monitored by several top clubs across Europe with Barcelona and Chelsea being the prominent ones. However, over the past few days, several reports had come out suggesting that Real Madrid had also entered the race for the 21-year-old.

All 3 of the interested clubs have goalscoring woes. Though Chelsea signed Higuain in the winter transfer window, he is not a long-term solution as he is into his 30s now. The same applies for Barcelona striker Luis Suarez and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.

As such, these European giants have been on the lookout for a quality striker who can lead their attack for years to come and in Luka Jovic, they had found the perfect candidate. However, it looks like Real Madrid and Chelsea will have to turn their attention elsewhere if they are to secure the services of a top striker in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Rumour rating/probability: 7/10

The Guardian is usually quite reliable when it comes to transfer rumours. Also, the deal is far from being finalized as Barcelona are yet to come to an agreement with Luka Jovic's parent club.

What next?

This will be a huge step up in Jovic's career if he does end up at Barcelona. He is a top striker for sure and Barcelona certainly needs a young and dependable striker to succeed Luis Suarez.
