What’s the story?

Barcelona are reportedly ahead of Manchester United and the chasing pack of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Chelsea to secure the signing of PSG midfielder Marco Veratti according to Mundo Deportivo. The Italian has been linked with a move away from best part of a season, and all the big guns are reported to be interested in the defensive midfielder.

In case you didn’t know..

Marco Veratti’s agent has been doing all he can to make sure that his client’s attracting attention during the Transfer market. “He has been in Paris for five years now and he has to make a decision, earn a lot and not win or earn and become a champion.”

“It is not a problem of money. Whoever signs Verratti will pay him a lot of money. One thing is certain: if he leaves PSG, it will be for a top European club”, his agent told Gazzetta dello Sport.

That is as good as a come and get me plea, obviously, the offers will be coming in now.

The heart of the matter

The 24-year-old has been one of the best young midfielders in world football and just like Paul Pogba will cost a fortune to whoever eventually signs the player. It is safe to say that Ivan Rakitic and Arda Turan haven’t replaced Xavi, and when the man himself says that he will be perfect for Barca, they should take the hint.

Marco Veratti has been at his lethal best, he completes 4.4 long passes per game, one of the highest numbers in Europe. He is one of the few players in Europe, who can control the tempo of the game from deep.

What’s Next?

It is a foregone conclusion that Marco Veratti is moving, but the question remains, which club he would choose. Real Madrid are the only team who have a saturated midfield, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Barcelona will be more than happy to have the former Pescara man.

Author’s Take

It is difficult to gauge how much truth is there in the rumour given the stage of the season. The price though, seems just about right. One thing is for sure, whatever money and whoever spends on him, it will be a great investment for years and years.
