Barcelona have reportedly opened talks with Liverpool about bringing star striker Luis Suarez to Camp Nou, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The two clubs are yet to agree terms, but there appears to be an acceptance that the striker is determined to join Barcelona. The 27-year-old is believed to have told friends he, Suarez has set his heart on a move to the La Liga giants this summer. The striker, who joined Liverpool in 2011, was the standout player in the Premier League last season – he scored 31 goals and was voted the Player of the Year by both the PFA and the FWA.

Barcelona’s biggest obstacle to signing the 27-year-old may come from Real Madrid, rather than Liverpool. Madrid have also been heavily linked with the Uruguayan and do not want to miss out on him, especially after Barcelona signed Neymar ahead of them last year.

The striker is set to be part of Uruguay’s team to face Italy tonight, with a place in the World Cup last 16 up for grabs. His participation in the tournament had been in doubt after suffering a knee injury at the end of the season, but he recovered sufficiently to score both goals in Uruguay’s 2-1 victory over England.

The loss of Suarez would be a major blow to Liverpool’s ambitions next season, with the club competing on both domestic and European fronts. Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez is being linked with a move to Anfield as a potential replacement for Suarez, and there have been reports suggesting Suarez may be used as a makeweight by Barcelona.
