Reports: Daniel Agger open to £12m Liverpool departure this summer

Liverpool are already heavily linked with Southampton defender Dejan Lovren this summer, and now Daniel Agger is open to leaving the club, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Agger only managed 18 starts in the Premier League last season, as Brendan Rodgers favoured the pairing of Mamadou Sakho and Martin Skrtel in the centre of defence.

Agger will return to Liverpool’s training ground on Monday to begin pre-season, but his future at the club is uncertain, and if Lovren does arrive he faces the prospect of even less football next season.

The 29-year-old does not want to be a bit-part player, and he would consider a move away from Anfield last season if Liverpool receive an offer that matches their £12 million valuation.

At the end of last season, Agger revealed that he believed Rodgers did not particularly rate him, and that he was not prepared to be third-choice for another year.

Liverpool have already signed Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Emre Can this summer for a combined fee of around £37 million, and Southampton have turned down their £18 million bid for Dejan Lovren.
