Reports: David de Gea seeks help from Real Madrid superstar to join them

Manchester United v Arsenal - Premier League
Will David de Gea be able to complete his dream move to Real Madrid?

What's the story?

One of the most frantic transfer windows in the history of football slammed shut less than a week ago but that hasn't stopped the rumour mills. We witnessed Neymar moving to Paris Saint-Germain in a world record €222m deal and that was not the only time the €100m barrier was breached in the recently concluded window.

According to English outlet Express, David de Gea is desperate to complete his dream move to Real Madrid - which fell through at the last hurdle in 2015 - and seeks the help of Los Blancos captain Sergio Ramos to help achieve it.

In case you didn't know...

David de Gea came as close as one can come without joining a team in 2015, when a fax machine fiasco prevented the Spaniard from moving to Real Madrid.

It was the deadline day of the summer transfer window of 2015 wjem Real Madrid and Manchester United agreed on terms for the sale of the goalkeeper, however, a fax machine error sabotaged the move right at the end and left the two parties blaming each other for the failed move.

Since then, Real Madrid have went on to win two UEFA Champions League titles, while Manchester United have benefitted tremendously from their custodian as they aim to get back to their glory days.

The heart of the matter

De Gea - who is currently on international duty with Spain - reportedly spoke with the Real Madrid captain, urging him to help broker a move to the Santiago Bernabeu outfit.

The report adds that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was keen on signing the 26-year-old this summer, however, manager Zinedine Zidane was happy with Keylor Navas and thus blocked any move for the Spaniard.

De Gea is hopeful that Los Blancos will renew their interest in him next season, which will help him fulfill his dream of returning to Spain.

Author's Take

Real Madrid have held a long-standing interest in the Manchester United shot-stopper and it was a surprise that they didn't move for him this summer.

The relationship between the two clubs has been fractured ever since that deadline tax machine fiasco and that could have played a part in it.

The Red Devils have also been following Gareth Bale from even before he completed a then world record move to Real Madrid and would want the Welshman to be part of any deal that sees De Gea going the other way.

We will have to wait and watch until the summer transfer window of next year to find out how this saga pans out.
