What's the rumour?

According to the Spanish media outlet, AS, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane clearly wants Manchester United star Paul Pogba, but the player's salary, his agent, and Manchester United pose a huge problem in the transfer.

In case you didn't know...

Since returning back to Manchester United in 2016, Pogba remains one of the key players for the Red Devils. The midfielder played a pivotal role for France as they lifted the World Cup last year.

The 26-year-old French midfielder endured a chaotic period under the tutelage of former boss, Jose Mourinho, but has played a pivotal role for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. With 16 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, Pogba's form has been the key for United in their fight for a top-four spot in the Premier League.

It is clear that Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is a fan of Pogba and the Frenchman himself claimed that a move to Los Blancos will be a dream move.

In a recent interview, Zidane said,

"I like Pogba a lot and that's nothing new. I know him personally and he is different. He adds something that few others can do, thanks to his quality. He knows how to attack and how to defend."

There is still a couple of years left in his current contract with Manchester United.

The heart of the matter

There are some major stumbling blocks for the Real Madrid hierarchy as they look to secure the services of the French midfielder.

According to the reports, Paul Pogba's salary remains the biggest issue as he would be the top earner in Real Madrid if he joins Los Blancos without a pay cut. The LaLiga giants don't want to disrupt the harmony and pay Pogba more than the likes of Ramos.

Pogba's agent, Mino Raiola, is also a major obstacle as the agent himself earns a huge commission. Moreover, United won't be willing to let go off an asset after the current campaign.

Rumour rating: 7/10

AS remains a reliable outlet and it is likely that Madrid would find it extremely hard to negate the three obstacles.

What's next?

Real Madrid will host Bilbao next in LaLiga.
