Reports: Arsenal star finds foreign suitors

Everton v Arsenal - Premier League
Wenger could lose one of his longest-serving players

What's the rumour?

There seem to be new suitors that have emerged for Arsenal star, Jack Wilshere, not in England but from abroad. As per the reports from The Daily Express, AC Milan look to be one of the leading contenders for the Englishman.

The midfielder's contract is due to expire at the end of the season and there have been no signs of a possible contract extension yet from the North London club.

In case you didn't know...

Wilshere is an academy product of the Arsenal youth team and made his senior debut in 2008 at the age of just 16. He broke into the Gunners first team with a great potential and huge expectations, as he was touted as the future of the club.

However, he hasn't been able to live up to all the hype as his career has been struck with numerous injuries. Surgeries and rehabilitation became a major roadblock which has led to him missing several months every season.

The heart of the matter

This season, Arsene Wenger has managed the 26-year-old since he has been able to stay away from injuries, allowing him to go on to make 30 appearances in all competitions, the most he has been able to accumulate in the last three seasons.

He has been able to play 17 matches in the Premier League, notching up a total of 1014 minutes scoring one goal and getting two assists. However, he has been an integral part of Wenger's Europa League team, allowing him to play in a number 10 role in the absence of Mesut Ozil.

Wilshere's form in Europe has been considerably better as he has started seven of those games averaging nearly four dribbles and two key passes per game despite him just grabbing an only goal and one assist thus far.

Rumour probability/rating: 7/10

The Arsenal midfielder has been one of the most talked about players heading into the upcoming transfer window and is available to be signed on a pre-contractual agreement. His contract will be expiring in June and the board have shown no intentions of offering him a new deal.

AC Milan came up against Wilshere and his team in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League last Thursday. The Milanese giants got to witness him first hand and look to have been impressed. Previously, Liverpool looked to be in pole position to sign the England international, but will now reportedly face competition from the Rossoneri.

Author's take

Jack Wilshere is still young and has a lot of football left ahead of him. At 26, he will be a good fit for any club. He has recovered well from his setbacks and is playing more minutes to justify his talent.

His future looks destined to be away from North London and it is up to him, whether to continue his career in England or in a foreign country as there will be a good number of suitors for the midfield ace in the summer.
