What's the story?

Bordeaux's starlet Malcom is now a transfer target for Liverpool, according to a report in British news outlet, The Daily Express. Arsenal had previously been linked with the Brazilian as a €50 million replacement for Alexis Sanchez. The player has been in trouble with Bordeaux in recent times for his social media antics - perhaps paving the way for his exit from the Ligue 1 side.

In case you didn't know...

Malcom joined the youth system of Corinthians at the tender age of 11 in 2008, spending six years in the youth system before being promoted to the senior team in 2014. The 2015 season was his breakout year, as Malcom became one of the most crucial players in the Brazilian side. Bordeaux signed the winger for an undisclosed fee in January 2016, despite interest from other top clubs.

The heart of the matter

In his post-match comments, Bordeaux manager Jocelyn Gourvennec spoke about Liverpool's interest in Malcom, saying "I can’t deny that he’s being followed by a lot of people. He’s asking himself what’s the best thing for him, for his future. That’s logical."

"If he’s asking questions and he still manages to make assists or score goals, it’ll be fine. If Liverpool want you to work for them tomorrow, you’d go. There is one person who decides in this, that’s the majority shareholder."

Arsenal's interest is effectively absent at the moment, with both sides confirming as such. Arsene Wenger previously, said "Malcom is a good player but nothing is happening. We are not on that case at the moment." Bordeaux President, Stephen Martin, meanwhile described Arsenal's interest as 'hot air'.

Rumour Reliability

7/10

That Malcom is on his way out of the club is not in much doubt. However, when the manager of Bordeaux himself has mentioned Liverpool, it is safe to say that the Reds are interested.

The Daily Express have reported that Arsenal have held talks with Malcom to give the impression of a 'battle' but it seems Liverpool are in pole position to sign the Brazilian winger.

Author's Take:

Malcom's style of play would fit perfectly within Liverpool's exciting attacking play under Jurgen Klopp. However, the 20-year-old would find it difficult to break into a starting lineup featuring the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane - though the sale of Philippe Coutinho might help.
