Reports: Real Madrid star might have played his last game for the club

Real Madrid v FC Barcelona - Copa del Rey Semi Final: Second Leg
Navas had played a pivotal role in Real Madrid winning three Champions League titles on the trot

What's the story?

According to Spanish media outlet, Marca, Real Madrid's goalkeeper Keylor Navas might have featured in his last game for the club.

In case you didn't know...

Keylor Navas was Real Madrid's undisputed starter under the tutelage of Zinedine Zidane as Los Blancos went to win three consecutive UEFA Champions League.

The 32-year-old Costa Rican was named UEFA Champions League's goalkeeper of the season last year after a splendid 2017/18 season.

With Navas defending their goal, Real Madrid are yet to be knocked out of the Champions League. He also holds a record matched by none with more than 10 wins at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League.

Despite his sensational performances with Los Blancos in the past three seasons, Navas has featured in just 14 games in all competitions this season, seven of these matches in the Copa Del Rey.

The heart of the matter

Navas recently signed to a new contract to extend his stay at Real Madrid until June 2021.

But there is little doubt that he is not a starter at the club anymore after the arrival of Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian goalkeeper was the star of FIFA World Cup in 2018 and his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu inevitably made Navas the second choice keeper for Los Blancos.

According to the report, Keylor Navas was undoubtedly Real Madrid's cup goalkeeper this season, featuring mostly in the Copa Del Rey and when Courtois was injured.

But after the defeat against arch-rivals Barcelona which knocked them out from Copa Del Rey, Keylor Navas will play no further part this season. He will be forced to watch Los Blancos' matches from the bench and will only be called when Courtois suffers an injury.

What's next?

Despite signing a contract extension recently, the following summer transfer window after the end of 2018/19 season will be crucial for the Costa Rican.

A goalkeeper of his caliber won't be comfortable playing the second fiddle at any club for long and Keylor Navas may move to other club seeking more minutes on the pitch.
