What's the story?

Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari has reportedly spoken to club officials in an attempt to make them understand that the club's main priority should be to bring in a new striker.

In case you didn't know...

The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, the club's all-time top scorer, last summer has had an adverse effect on the Los Blancos outfit, with the team struggling to produce goals in his absence.

The likes of Mariano Diaz, Karim Benzema, and Gareth Bale have failed to score frequently enough for the side to compete for the top spot so far this season.

The inefficiency in front of goal, coupled with an injury crisis, have left the club in worse shape than before. Benzema suffered a hand injury in last week’s victory over Real Betis while Bale and Diaz have also been laid off due to injury. This leaves 18-year-old Vinicius Junior as the sole attacking option available for games.

The heart of the matter

Wednesday's defeat to Leganes in the Copa del Rey served as a reminder of Real Madrid need to invest in a goal-scorer and Solari is incredibly aware of it.

According to Marca, the Argentine manager has been vocal about his team's current crisis in the position and insists that signing a worthy replacement for Ronaldo is the need of the hour.

The report claims that despite Solari's pleas, the club has decided to not sign any other player in the current winter transfer window.

What's next?

Real Madrid turning a blind eye to their own attacking needs has generated a lot of controversy since Ronaldo's departure and it remains to be seen whether the club will sign a proper replacement anytime soon. The reigning European champions will next face Sevilla in La Liga tomorrow.
