Reports: Steven Gerrard expected to leave Liverpool at the end of the season

Steven Gerrard all set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season

According to BBC Sport, Steven Gerrard will leave Liverpool at the end of this season. Gerrard’s contract runs out this summer and is wanted by many MLS teams. Although Brendan Rodgers claims that a new deal has been offered to the Liverpool captain, there are still doubts over his future at Anfield.

Speculation about Gerrard's long-term Liverpool future intensified following a newspaper interview in which he said he would join another club if he was not offered a new contract at Anfield. Gerrard is linked to many overseas sides, but one stands out. MLS side LA Galaxy are expected to make a move to acquire his Steven Gerrard’s services.

This news has come as a shock to many Liverpool supporters, who expected their talismanic captain to finish his career in Anfield itself. With Steven Gerrard more than likely to leave, Liverpool could perhaps fall short of leaders in their team.

Jamie Carragher, Gerrard’s former Liverpool and England teammate, tweeted: "Sad day for Liverpool and English football. I think it's the right decision, all things considered."

Gerrard, born in the Merseyside village of Whiston, joined Liverpool's academy when he was nine years old, progressing through the ranks to make his first-team debut as a substitute against Blackburn Rovers in November 1998.
