Rio Ferdinand Fined For Remarks

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has been fined £45,000 by the English Football Association for referring to Ashley Cole as a Choc Ice on Twitter. A Choc Ice is not always a generic frozen dessert consisting of a block of rectangular ice cream, but it could also describe a person who is black on the outside, white on the inside.

The Manchester United and England centre half was charged with improper conduct for making comments on his Twitter site a couple of days after Ashley Cole gave evidence at John Terry’s trial at the start of July. Sir Alex Ferguson: “The Football Association want to close the door on this kind of thing. What surprises me is that other players have been twittering for ages and have never been challenged by the Football Association. His status in the game has caused that and who he plays for is maybe another issue.
