Rio Ferdinand will be offered a new one year contract next month, which will extend his career in Manchester United for the 12th year.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson views him as one of the many vital players in Manchester United. He plays a key role in the defence for both Manchester United and England. Also, his leadership qualities, which he can offer as a senior player, keeps his team motivated.

Ferdinand opted out on his last international duty, which was held at San Marino, with the reason being a treatment for his back problems. Ferdinand’s back has been giving him problems, due to which he had to stay on the bench for the last fixture against Sunderland. Ferdinand is unable to play matches which take place in a short span of time. Sir Alex Ferguson quoted, “Rio’s international career has been in doubt for a while anyway. He hadn’t been picked for quite a few games”.
