Robben becomes the fastest footballer after his record sprint against Spain

Arjen Robben outruns Spain’s Ramos to score his second goal of the game

Arjen Robben became the fastest footballer after his devastating sprint to score his team’s fifth goal against Spain on Friday.

Robben was scintillating throughout the game causing constant nightmares to the Spanish defenders backed by his incredible speed and precision. He netted two goals in the 5-1 routing of Spain and his second goal in the game was special as he broke the European speed record.

Previously, Arsenal’s Theo Walcott held the record at 35.7 kilometres per hour being the fastest footballer playing in Europe.

But, Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben broke Walcott’s record to become the fastest footballer as he whizzed past Ramos at a record speed of 37 kilometres per hour. The most incredible feature about this achievement was that he acheived this speed in the 80th minute of the game where the players are expected to be tired.

Starting five metres clearly behind Spain’s Sergio Ramos, the Dutch winger clearly out-paced the Spanish defender’s speed of 30 kilometres per hour and went on to score his team’s fifth goal.

Note: FIFA does not track every match and does not do it for players playing outside Europe thereby exposing obvious loopholes onto anyone being procliamed “fastest in the world”.
