Robbie Fowler: Rickie Lambert is just what Liverpool need

Liverpool to complete Lambert signing tomorrow

Liverpool fan-favourite Robbie Fowler is convinced that Rickie Lambert would be a “magnificent” signing for his former club.

Reports emerged yesterday that Liverpool were closing in on a £4 million deal for Lambert, with a medical scheduled for tomorrow.

Speaking on talkSport, ex-Reds striker Fowler weighed in on the speculation, asserting that the 32-year-old would be a quality addition to the Merseysider’s squad, giving Liverpool greater variety going forward.

“[He would be] a magnificent one. For £4m you’re getting a recognised striker who scores goals in the Premier League and who can hold balls up.

“He’s probably what Liverpool need. I think he’s got a little bit of everything. It doesn’t fit with what Liverpool were saying about young players coming in but for £4m I don’t think you can argue with it.

“It gives Liverpool more and more options in attack which is what I think they need.”

There have been some question marks over whether the player would be good enough for Liverpool given his age and the level of football he’s competed at. However, the stats indicate that Lambert could be an effective player for Liverpool. The Saints forward has scored 13 goals this season, with a shot accuracy of 51%. While he has also created 53 chances, getting ten assists.

Lambert might not be the only Saints player making the journey up north should the proposed transfer go through with England international Adam Lallana also reportedly keen to make the switch.
