Roberto Martinez: Ross Barkley will be a success at the FIFA World Cup

Barkley in action for Everton

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is confident that his young midfielder Ross Barkley will be a success for England in the World Cup.

“Ross is so good, a chef could manage him,” said the Spaniard.

Barkley had a stellar season with Everton where he netted 7 goals in 38 appearances which earned him a place in Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad.

Martinez has stated that he enjoys working with Barkley and is sure that his prodigy will be able to handle anything that is thrown at him.

“Ross has been outstanding for Everton and there is no doubt he is a special talent that any manager or coach would love to have,” Martinez gushed.

“Roy Hodgson will know how best to use him and if he gets his chance I am certain he will be ready. Nothing fazes him.

“He is as good a talent as you could wish to have. He has everything, technically and physically. He has the control, strength and composure. All you have to do is give him the environment to fulfil his potential.”

In spite of praising Barkley Martinez insists that his country will do everything they can to retain their trophy but will have to get past the South American countries first.

“From a football point of view, you can’t look beyond Spain and Germany for a winner,” said the 40-year-old who will get to see all the action unfold in Brazil this year.

“But look at where the tournament is being played and you will not get a European winner in South America. I don’t think that will change.”

Spain will begin their World Cup title defence against their 2010 final opponents Netherlands on June 13th while England are set to face Italy on the 14th.
