Robertson's new deputy next season

Liverpool have had a tough time finding stability in the full-back position, but Robertson has filled in efficiently.
Liverpool have had a tough time finding stability in the full-back position, but Robertson has filled in efficiently.

Andrew Robertson’s move to Liverpool doomed Alberto Moreno’s future at Anfield. Before Robertson, left back was an Achilles heel for Liverpool as Moreno’s below-par performances had forced Klopp to play midfielder James Milner at left-back for one entire season. Moreno’s Liverpool career seemed to be rejuvenated after the Spanish full-back put in some good show at left-back in Liverpool’s preseason at the start of last season.

Robertson had to wait for his Liverpool chance after signing for the club from Hull City. But once Robertson got his chance, he never looked back and is now probably the first name on the team-sheet for Jurgen Klopp.

With Moreno rejecting a new contract at the club, Liverpool will be looking out for a deputy for Andrew Robertson at left-back. Klopp has faith in Liverpool’s teenage left-back Adam Lewis to fill in that void. Adam has captained Liverpool at various youth levels. He has a similar story to Trent Alexander Arnold.

Klopp was impressed by Adam’s consistent performances in the Premier League 2 this season. The youngster has four assists in 16 games at the U23 level. He has also scored one and assisted another three in the UEFA Youth League this season. The 19-year-old full back is very confident on the ball. He is also a versatile left-sided player who can also play various attacking positions.

Is Adam Lewis the answer?
Is Adam Lewis the answer?

Adam has been at the Liverpool academy since the under-6 level. He has come up the ranks and is very close to his dream of playing for Liverpool’s first team now. The ‘young Andy Robertson' works tirelessly on the pitch. His pace along with his pin-point delivery makes him a huge attacking threat from the left side. He even possesses a threat to the opposition through direct free-kicks as he has got a very powerful left foot. Above all, he is a leader on the pitch and is brimming with energy.

Andrew Robertson has won over the hearts of the Liverpool fans. The 24-year-old has 6 assists to his name this season. He is arguably the best left-back in the league and one of the best in the world. The £8 million signing from Hull City is now the second most valuable full-back in the world. On the other hand, he has been a nightmare for Alberto Moreno as his consistent performances have kept the Spaniard away from Liverpool’s first team.

It looks like Adam Lewis will be competing with Andrew Robertson for the left-back role next season. It will be a great step up for the 19-year-old in his Liverpool career. Lewis’ introduction to Liverpool’s first team will make the left-back position stronger than ever.

Klopp’s choice of not going into the market for a new left-back should pay off as he keeps his faith in the youth to deliver. Adam Lewis can walk on Trent Alexander Arnold’s footsteps as he finds a way to become an important member of Liverpool’s first team.
