ROME, ITALY – SEPTEMBER 16: Alberto Gilardino (C) of Bologna FC competes for the ball with AS Roma players during the Serie A match between AS Roma and Bologna FC at Stadio Olimpico on September 16, 2012 in Rome, Italy.

Rome, Sep 25 – Italian football club AS Roma have been handed a 3-0 win at Cagliari after the game was postponed due to safety concerns.

The match Monday was originally to be played at the Is Arenas in Sardinia behind closed doors as the stadium did not pass the safety check, reports Xinhua.

However, the club president Massimo Cellino called on the season ticket holders to attend the game anyway.

In order to avoid public chaos, the Cagliari local police called off the encounter.

Given that the cancellation was a result of Cagliari’s actions, Roma’s appeal to be awarded a 3-0 win was granted.

Cagliari also run the risk of further punishments from being forced to play more games behind closed doors or points penalty.
