Bucharest, Oct 31 (IANS) Romanian striker Ciprian Marica announced his retirement from football on Monday after 15 years as a professional due to physical problems he has been suffering for months.

In a message on his Facebook account, the 31-year-old thanked the game for everything it gave him and the fans for their support, appreciation, even their criticism, reports Efe.

The Romanian explained that he put an end to his soccer career because his physical condition does not allow him to do things to the level the fans deserve.

The retired player stressed that he will always continue to support his previous teams and will be devoted to the foundation that bears his name.

Born on October 2, 1985, Marica began his career at Dinamo Bucuresti between 2001 and 2004 and then moved to Shakhtar Donetsk from 2004 and 2007.

He also played in VfB Stuttgart between 2007 and 2011, Schalke 04 from 2011 to 2013, Getafe in 2013-14, Konyaspor in 2014-15 and Steaua Bucharest in 2016.

The Romanian striker debuted with his national team in 2003 and scored 25 goals in 71 games.
