What keeps Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo so fit?

It isn’t just for that massive physical build that Cristiano Ronaldo was selected as the fittest player in the world. The high-calibre endurance that he shows season after season was also an important factor in his selection. Statistically, Ronaldo averages almost 145 matches between his injury breaks, a record that is paralleled by none.

But how does he keep himself so fit and focused? We try to find out.

At the end of the day, if you are motivated to train hard, you will eventually train hard. Ronaldo, in this respect, is a training junkie. He pushes limits, and is known to be extremely disciplined towards his game.

"There's no fluke about it. I see Ronaldo practising all the time in training," says his former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ronaldo is in Real Madrid’s training camp in Valdebebas five days a week depending on their schedule, working out for 3-4 hours while on a strict diet. According to as, after every match, Ronaldo is straight back home unlike most of his teammates who go out for drinks and dinner with family or friends.

Ronaldo, instead, gets back to training. His post-match diet includes fruits, a slice of pizza and carbohydrate-rich snacks along with loads of fluids.

And once he is home, he will engage in a session of hot and cold baths which has been confirmed by doctors as the best method for recovering from fatigue after matches.

This method has been helping him his healing process from wounds suffered during the match, allowing himself to maintain a stable blood flow and air circulation. This is followed by a 20-minute swim, all alone, helping him assess his performance. To help himself sleep early, he enjoys a warm Turkish bath for five minutes.

His match-day training includes doing cardio exercises for half an hour followed by sprinting drills, technical drills for improving his ball control, a tactical exercise to work on team composure and ultimately his gym workout which involves him doing 3000 sit-ups a day, according to an article by Daily Star.

So now you know how Cristiano Ronaldo manages to push the boundaries in match preparation to keep himself fit. The thirst for being the best player in the world is what makes him what he is today.
