Roy Keane urges James McCarthy to snub Manchester United

James McCarthy has been advised by Roy Keane not to leave Everton

Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has urged Everton midfielder James McCarthy not to join his former club and stay at Everton, as he does not want to see the Scottish born Irish midfielder’s progress get stunted. Keane believes that McCarthy’s move from Wigan Athletic last summer has helped the 23-year-old midfielder make a progress.

Speaking to Irish Times, Keane said, "He's only been at Everton two minutes,"

"He's obviously making good progress but I'm pretty sure that with Manchester United there'll be talks of lots of players going there at the moment but James is at a good club in Everton.

"He's had a decent couple of seasons and if he keeps progressing then who knows but I'm sure he's happy where he is."

James McCarthy had a good debut season with Everton making 34 appearances this season scoring 1 goal and having 3 assists to his name. He has benefited from the dynamism the Everton midfield provides giving him plenty of time to shield the back four.

He was also credited by teammate Coleman as the reason behind him moving forward and attacking, and consequently getting into the PFA team of the year for 2013-14.
