Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United left-back Harry Amass. Manager Unai Emery is looking to build a squad of young players with great potential and the club have identified Amass as an option.
The Red Devils have had major issues in the left-back position in recent times. While Tyrell Malacia hasn't made an appearance since the 2022-23 season, Luke Shaw has also had a lot of injury issues. He has also yet to make an appearance this season.
Hence, many fans urged former manager Erik ten Hag and former interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy to give Harry Amass the opportunity. However, both of them preferred to use the likes of right-back Diogo Dalot and centre-back Lisandro Martinez in the position. As per TEAMtalk, this lack of first-team action could lead to Amass considering his future at the club.
The 17-year-old joined Manchester United's academy from Watford academy last summer and has made 12 appearances for the U21 side. Aston Villa have also been monitoring him since his Watford days and are interested in signing him. Amass is contracted at Old Trafford until 2027 and hence, it won't be easy to prise him away.
The Englishman's future could also depend on his ability to adapt to new manager Ruben Amorim's playing style. The Portuguese often plays with wing-backs rather than fullbacks. Hence, Amass will have to adapt to that role if he is to have a future at Manchester United.
Manchester United handed injury boost as two players set to return after international break
New manager Ruben Amorim could potentially have both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia to work with during the ongoing international break. The two players could also return to first-team action after the break.
Luke Shaw last featured for Manchester United in February earlier this year. He traveled with England for the UEFA Euro 2024 and also made a few appearances. However, he then suffered a calf injury in pre-season with the Red Devils. He was expected to return in October but suffered a setback. However, Shaw has now returned to training and has stayed at Old Trafford during the break to continue his recovery and return to fitness.
On top of that, Tyrell Malacia also returned to academy action recently. He featured for Manchester United's U21 side in their 4-1 defeat against Huddersfield Town in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday, November 12. He played 45 minutes in the match as he builds his fitness after around 17 months out of action.
