Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong is prepared to part ways with long-time agent Ali Dursun in a bid to remain at the club. The Dutch midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Spanish giants as his contract renewal talks appear to have stalled.
A report from Mundo Deportivo has revealed that De Jong has lost confidence in the ability of his agent to help him get a new deal. He intends to sack Dursun and negotiate his contract renewal directly to allow him remain at the club.
Frenkie De Jong has a deal until 2026 and is about to enter into the final 12 months of his deal with the club. As a result, his contract renewal has been made a priority by club president Joan Laporta, who thinks that it is urgent that the situation be resolved.
Barcelona flirted with the idea of putting De Jong up for sale due to his injury troubles of recent years, but the midfielder appears to have overcome the troubles. He established himself as a key presence in Hansi Flick's side in the 2024-25 season, making 46 appearances across all competitions as they won LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de Espana.
La Blaugrana have prioritized contract renewals for key players in recent months, with the likes of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha signing new deals. Pedri and Gerard Martin also signed new deals, and Wojciech Szczesny is expected to sign a new deal, as well.
Barcelona star named LaLiga Player of the Season
Barcelona forward Raphinha has been named as the Player of the Season in LaLiga after an impressive 2024-25 campaign. The Brazil international enjoyed a career-best campaign for La Blaugrana as they dethroned bitter rivals Real Madrid to claim the league, cup, and Super Cup titles.
Raphinha finished the season with 18 goals and 11 assists in 36 appearances for La Blaugrana in the league. The 28-year-old improved greatly on the six league goals he scored during the 2023-24 season, while his tally of 11 assists was bettered only by Lamine Yamal in their squad. He recorded 34 goals and 22 assists across all competitions for his side.
The former Leeds United man has earned a new contract for his impressive displays throughout the season, having been very close to an exit last summer. He signed a new contract with the club last month and is expected to remain a Culer until June 2028, at least.
