Liverpool join Arsenal and Manchester United in race to sign 22-year-old ex-Chelsea defender: Reports

Liverpool have entered the race to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the former Chelsea central defender.

As per a report in Daily Mail, Jurgen Klopp is keeping tabs on Guehi as he wants to sign players who can help Liverpool get back into the top four. The German had already admitted he's keen on signing players in all positions possible except a goalkeeper.

"We look in all departments apart from goalkeeper at the moment," Klopp told a press conference (via LiverpoolECHO).

"Yes, if there is a good one (center-back) out there, I would not deny it. That's all. We look at all areas of the pitch, definitely."

Guehi has been in top form for Palace since moving from Chelsea. He is now seen as the long-term replacement for Joel Matip at Anfield, who has not been at his best this season.

Manchester United and Tottenham are also keeping track of the defender as they look to bolster their defense. Chelsea have a sell-on clause in his contract and will get a percentage of the sale.

Liverpool and Manchester United target told to remain patient by former manager

Patrick Vieira, the former Crystal Palace manager, urged Marc Guehi to remain patient after he was not selected for the FIFA World Cup. The Frenchman believed that he needed to take his time and work on the pitch instead of thinking about the end goals.

He was quoted by The Athletic as saying:

"I've just had a brief conversation with Marc. Players like him who want to be there at the top and represent his country to not be part of the squad is a disappointment. I can see that but it is his objective and he still has time to play in the next World Cup or Euros. He has shown a really good (reaction). He's ambitious and wants the best for himself, to represent his country. Working really well, really hard."

He added:

"When you look at his performance, in the last year and half he's been really consistent. He just has to keep working like that and there will be a time where he plays in a World Cup. It's a dream but there's a Euros coming and a World Cup in 2026. It is important for him to keep that drive to keep challenging and improving himself. A question of time before he will be an England player."

Guehi was touted to be a part of Chelsea's defence after an impressive Swansea loan but was sold to Crystal Palace as he was not guaranteed to start.
