Liverpool have reportedly fallen behind in the race to sign Daniel Svensson. As per FotbollDirekt expert Lars Gram-Hanssen, the left-back would prefer a move to Leeds United instead.
Svensson has impressed during his time with Norwegian side Nordsjaelland. The 22-year-old has made 150 appearances for them, scoring eight goals and providing 20 assists. His performances have seen Liverpool take an interest in signing him in January or next summer.
However, Gram-Hanssen believes Svensson might join Leeds, who have also been monitoring the Swedish left-back for a long time. He said (via The Hard Tackle):
“I think Daniel Svensson would be interested in a move to Leeds. They are number one in the Championship and it could be a chance to go to a club where he would have a good chance of being a starter from the start.”
Any potential move will likely happen next summer despite both clubs looking to sign him in January. Svensson and Nordsjaelland both want to continue until at least the end of this season.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are looking for reinforcements in the left-back position following Andrew Robertson's struggles this season. The Scottish left-back has been inconsistent, registering just one assist in 17 games across competitions and making some defensive errors. Kostas Tsimikas, meanwhile, has started just six games across competitions.
Liverpool right-back Andy Robertson opens up on win over Real Madrid and Manchester City clash
The Reds beat Real Madrid 2-0 at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League league stage on Wednesday, November 27. Goals from Alexis Mac Allister (52') and Cody Gakpo (76') secured their fifth win in five games in the competition this season.
After the game, Andy Robertson spoke about how they are now ready to prepare for their upcoming clash against Manchester City, saying (via Liverpoolfc.com):
“As soon as the final whistle goes and you’re in the changing room, all of a sudden recovery starts, preparation starts for the Man City game. The coaches are already probably talking about it knowing them!
“But for us players it’s just all about recovering tonight and trying to get as much sleep as you can and then tomorrow doing the same. But already our minds have flipped on to how important the game is on Sunday, we look forward to another big game at Anfield and hopefully we can put in a similar performance as we did tonight because I thought every player stepped up and we’re going to need that again come Sunday.”
Liverpool sit atop the Premier League table, eight points above Manchester City. Hence, their clash at Anfield on Sunday, December 1, can have big repercussions in the title race.
