Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a move for Bart Verbruggen as Ruben Amorim wants a new goalkeeper. The Red Devils see the Brighton & Hove Albion star as the ideal #1 at Old Trafford.
As per a report in Fichajes, Manchester United want a goalkeeper signed in 2025 and are ready to make a move for Verbruggen. They are worried with the form of Andre Onana and are not convinced that Altay Bayindir can replace the former Inter Milan star in goal.
Paul Scholes spoke about Onana at the start of the season and admitted that he was concerned about the goalkeeper. He said (via TeamTalk):
"I’ve heard a lot of Manchester United fans say how excited they are for the new season, I’m struggling with that. I still think there are areas of the pitch which are a problem for United. The new centre-back (Leny Yoro) has already got injured. Martinez was injured last season, Maguire was injured at the end of the season, Lindelof the same, no Varane this season. I still worry about the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper is a big concern for me. Even in pre-season with some of the goals he conceded. I worry to death about him."
His worst fears have come true as the Red Devils have been leaking goals and are now looking for his replacement. Bayindir was given a chance in the Carabao Cup, but conceded four goals against Tottenham Hotspur as the Red Devils lost 4-3.
Verbruggen has done well at Brighton and has now caught the eye of the decision-makers at Old Trafford. Fichajes report that the Red Devils will need to pay £30 million to sign the goalkeeper, who has a contract until 2028.
Manchester United goalkeepers slammed by Pundit
Chris Sutton slammed the Manchester United goalkeepers after both conceded directly from corners in back-to-back games. He said on BBC:
“I said before Christmas that I thought Newcastle would hit their stride and they have done exactly that. The way they are playing, they should win at Old Trafford and make it four league wins in a row. Manchester United’s form is the exact opposite.
"I am not concerned about Amorim getting the sack but it really does not help when your goalkeeper keeps on conceding goals direct from a corner – that is under-12s stuff. I remember it happening when I was watching my son play when he was about 15 and he got done off a corner. I told him you would never see it happen to a professional goalkeeper, but it has happened twice in two weeks to Man United – first to Altay Bayindir and then Andre Onana. You could not make it up.”
Manchester United have now started looking for replacements and are working on improving Ruben Amorim's squad.
