Wolverhampton Wanderers are preparing to hand Manchester United target Matheus Cunha a new deal, according to The Telegraph. The Brazilian has registered seven goals and three assists from 14 games across competitions for the Midlands club this season.
Cunha has been a rare shining light for the Wolves amid a dismal campaign so far. His efforts have already caused a stir at Old Trafford.
New Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim is already shortlisting his targets for January 2025. Attacking reinforcements are on his agenda, with the likes of Joshua Zirkzee failing to inspire confidence.
Manchester United have struggled to find the back of the net this season, scoring just 13 goals in 12 games so far in the league. Amorim wants an established No. 9 to lead the line at Old Trafford.
While Rasmus Hojlund scored a brace against Bodo/Glimt in midweek, the Dane isn't finished material yet. The Red Devils would ideally like someone like Viktor Gyokeres, who was outstanding under Amorim at Sporting.
However, prising the Swede away in January is next to impossible. The Portuguese manager has already confirmed that he won't raid his former club in the winter. As such, Manchester United have identified Cunha as an option.
While the player is under contract at the Molineux until 2027, the Red Devils are confident that they can script a deal at the turn of the year. However, Wolverhampton Wanderers are determined to keep hold of Cunha, and are already preparing to offer him a mouthwatering renewal offer. Manager Gary O'Neil has also confirmed that the Brazilian won't be sold in January.
Who is Manchester United's top scorer this season?
Manchester United have scored 36 goals across competitions this season from 20 games. Apart from the 13 scored in the Premier League, the Red Devils have also found the back of the net 10 times in five games in the Europa League.
Alejandro Garnacho, who has appeared in every game for the club this season, is their top scorer so far. The Argentinean has registered eight goals and four assists from 20 games, 13 of which have been starts.
Marcus Rasford has scored five goals and set up three more in 20 games, including 17 starts. Interestingly, the Englishman scored Manchester United's first goal under Ruben Amorim last weekend against Ipswich Town. Bruno Fernandes, who has four goals and seven assists from 19 games, is the third on the list.
