Tottenham linked with shock move for Manchester United striker

According to FourFourTwo, Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as a shock option for Manchester United striker Anthony Martial in the summer. The Frenchman looks set to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer when his current deal runs out and Spurs could give him a lifeline in the Premier League.

The former Monaco youth prospect joined the Red Devils in 2015 for a fee that reportedly rose to £45 million and hit the ground running immediately. The then-teenager's brilliant solo goal against Liverpool on his debut made him an instant hit with the Old Trafford faithful.

Martial had a fruitful debut season for Manchester United, bagging 19 goals and nine assists as a teenager to get the fans and management excited about him. However, the next nine years of his stay would be plagued by injuries and mixed form, seeing him bag 90 goals and 48 assists in 317 appearances.

The 28-year-old has had a poor time with injuries over the last few seasons, making just 48 appearances across two campaigns in all competitions, scoring 11 times. This has led to his stock dropping and his valuation being a mere €10 million on Transfermarkt.

According toTuttosport, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglu is interested in signing the one-time Golden Boy award winner since he would cost nothing in the summer. Despite reported offers from Italy, Martial might consider a move to Tottenham, with the Australian boss already proven to be an expert in reviving careers.

The Manchester United man might see a new lease of life that Richarlison and Timo Werner have enjoyed in the Premier League and opt to move to north London.

Roberto Baggio hails Manchester United target Joshua Zirkzee

Former Italy Icon Roberto Baggio has praised Manchester United target Joshua Zirkzee, comparing him to club icons Dimitar Berbatov and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The former Bayern Munich youngster is not the most prolific forward in Italy, bagging just 11 goals this campaign for Bologna. However, his ability to play a hybrid role between a 9 and a 10 makes him a joy to watch.

The Dutch forward is also coached by Thiago Motta, who is reportedly also in consideration for the manager role at Old Trafford. Bringing the pair together would help settle both and fill the hole in attack that will be opened up when Martial departs in the summer.

Speaking to United Faithful (via Tottomercatoweb), the Italian icon said :

“Zirkzee? He will be a transfer man in the summer. And, if I have to compare him to someone, he reminds me a lot of Berbatov. Because he has great technique and vision of the game and only scores beautiful goals.”

Manchester United will hope to bring the talented forward in the summer as they hope to rebuild following a poor 2023-24 campaign.
