Arsenal have been handed a significant boost in their hunt for strikers this summer, with the Mirror reporting that Real Madrid are prepared to sell Karim Benzema in order to fund their own moves in the transfer market.

Real Madrid are contemplating making a record bid for Luis Suarez in order to bring the Liverpool forward to the Santiago Bernabeu, but with UEFA Financial Fair Play rulings now in place, the Spanish giants are wary that they will need to sell as well in order to avoid punishment by Europe’s governing body.

Benzema has never quite lived up to his reputation in Spain and it appears that Real are giving up hope of him being the lethal marksman they imagined he would be upon purchasing him from Lyon, and are now willing to let him go.

Arsenal have made strikers their priority this summer after being left with just Olivier Giroud as their senior striking options and with Nicklas Bendtner due to exit the club, they are looking for a top level forward to give them the opportunity to build on consecutive fourth-place finishes and launch a sustained title challenge.

Benzema is reported to be available for a fee of around £30million this summer, but Arsenal will face competition from Manchester United, while Real could yet use him as bait to tempt Liverpool into selling them Suarez.
