Rumour: Arsenal could reignite interest in Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira

Sami Khedira
Sami Khadira: Ticking Wenger’s fancy

Arsenal are to reignite their interest in Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira, according to the Mirror.

Arsene Wenger is known to have enquired about the German midfielder’s availability in the January transfer window.

Khedira only managed a paltry 14 appearances last term, owing to a long-term injury sustained in October that has restricted his involvement until recently.

The former Stuttgart man is held in high regard by the management at Madrid, as evidenced by Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to reinstate the German for Real Madrid’s Champions League final triumph against Atletico Madrid.

Fears over the 27-year-old’s fitness will be further assuaged by Khedira’s inclusion in Joachim Löw’s provisional squad for the World Cup.

Although Arsenal are said to have first referral on Cesc Fabregas (should newly instated Barcelona boss deem the Spaniard surplus to requirements) Wenger is said to favour the pursuance of Madrid’s combative enforcer, who could be available for half the price of the ex-Gunner.

Khedira’s contract at Los Blancos expires next season, with Madrid thought to value him at £15 million.

Another thing to consider is Khedira’s strong friendship with Mezut Ozil and the healthy German contingent present at the Emirates.
