Arsenal have reportedly sent representatives to Portugal to scout William Carvalho. This, after Manchester United were earlier rumoured to be interested in the newly capped Portugal international and had sent their representatives regularly to watch him in action. The highly rated midfielder is contracted to Sporting Lisbon until 2018 and carries a release clause of €45m.
The 21-year-old has broken into and established himself in the first team after having gone out on loan for the last two seasons. He was also fast tracked into the Portugal national team recently when he came on as a substitute in the 3-2 away win against Sweden.

The Portuguese media have ambitiously compared him with Patrick Vieira due to his build and style of play.
Juventus and Manchester United have been scouting him for quite a while and Arsenal joined them to watch Carvalho in action as Sporting Lisbon beat Pacos De Ferreira 4-0 to go top of the table.
Carvalho is among the lowest earners in the team being paid only about €100,000 a season. Despite the huge release clause, Sporting could be enticed to sell at a much lower price given the financial problems at the club.
