Rumour: Arsenal on alert for Sochaux‘s Sebastien Corchia

Reports in France claim that Lille have had a bid turned down for one of Arsenal’s reported full-back targets, Sochaux‘s Sebastien Corchia. With Bacary Sagna yet to commit to a new contract at the club, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been linked Corchia as a replacement. However, he faces competition for the right back and news of Lille’s interest in the full back could spark a bid from the Gunners.

Corchia has long rumoured to be a target for Arsenal and has also been linked with their London rivals Tottenham. He drew interest from the club in the summer, but a move didn’t materialise, and he stayed in France.

However, Lille have made the first move in the race to take the Frenchman from Sochaux, with L’Equipe reporting that they have had a bid turned down.

Arsenal could find themselves in need of a right back as current incumbent Sagna is out of contract in the summer. Despite protracted negotiations he has yet to pen a new deal, whilst doubts remain over the ability of understudy Carl Jenkinson to step up to the role permanently.

Twenty three year old Corchia has previously admitted that he would jump at the chance to make the step up to a bigger club, saying that it is his ambition to move to a big club.

Speaking last year he said: “I am working hard to reach the top level and play in a bigger club than Sochaux, it is everyone’s ambition to move to a big club.”
