Arsenal are in surprise talks to sign Spartak Moscow’s Kim Kallstrom as Arsene Wenger looks likely to bolster his options on deadline day, according to the Daily Mail.

The 31 year-old has a wealth of experience, having made over 200 appearances for Ligue 1 outfit Lyon in a six year spell in France before he joined Moscow in 2012.

Any potential deal is only likely to incur a ‘small fee’ and would be a huge boost to Wenger’s squad, after he confirmed an in form Aaron Ramsey is likely to miss another six weeks through injury.

Meanwhile, Theo Walcott is a long term absentee and Mikel Arteta has also struggled to maintain his fitness throughout the campaign. The arrival of an extra body ahead of the North Londoners gruelling fixture schedule would help lift the load on those returning to fitness.

The Swede has over a century of caps for his country and would add much needed bite in The Gunners midfield. Although he does not represent a marquee signing, Kallstrom would do a job in the centre of the park as Arsenal look to finally end their trophy drought this year.

Kim Kallstrom has a 76% tackle success rate this season, which is 30% better than Mathieu Flamini.
