Arsene Wenger is considering a summer move for VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Maximilian Arnold, according to reports in The Mirror.

The 19 year-old has played for Germany at youth level and also won a cap for the Under 21 side recently, despite his tender years. The midfielder’s current contract expires in 2015 and it is believed that he has a buy out clause inserted into the deal wroth around £8million.

However, the north Londoners face competition for his signature with Serie A giants Juventus also reported to be interested in a permanent deal for the youngster.

Wenger hoped to add to his growing contingent of Germany internationals with the capture of Schalke’s Julian Draxler in January but failed to secure a deal for the 20 year-old winger.

The Frenchman’s failure to add to his squad may derail his side’s hopes of ending their eight year trophy drought while it could also mean Arsenal are unable to sign long term target Draxler in the summer, with increased competition from numerous European heavyweights.

As a result he has turned his attention to other potential signings, with Arnold top of his list and available at a fraction of the price. Already labelled Mesut Ozil’s successor, Wenger will be keen to move quickly to secure his services ahead of his rivals.

Maximilian Arnold has scored two goals in 14 appearances for Wolfburg this season, two of which have been from 25 yards out.
