Laurent Koscielny could be set to be the latest Arsenal player to commit himself to a new deal at The Emirates, with reports suggesting that he is close to signing a new five year deal at the club.

Unlucky with his PFA team of the season snub, Koscielny has been excellent this season alongside Per Mertesacker at the heart of the Gunners’ defence, keeping club captain Thomas Vermaelen out of the side, and has reportedly been rewarded with a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2019.

Such a deal would make Koscielny 33 upon its expiration, giving another sign that Arsenal have abandoned their policy of only handing one year deals to those over 30.

The 28 year old has made 31 league appearances for Arsenal this season, making 41 tackles and averaging 11 Defensive Actions (interceptions, tackles and blocks) per game – the highest at the club.

Koscielny’s new deal is the latest in a string of fresh contracts at the club, with Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla, Per Mertesacker and Tomas Rosicky all penning new contracts at the club, despite the future of manager Arsene Wenger remaining unclear beyond the end of the season.

Arsenal have won just two of the six league games Koscielny has missed this season
