Rumour: Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson to sign new contract

Jordan Henderson

Jordan Henderson has been an influential figure in Liverpool’s midfield this season

Jordan Henderson is to be rewarded for his impressive form this season, with reports suggesting he will be handed a new contract that will keep him at the club for the next four years.

The Mirror believe that he will be given a new contract, which he has in principle agreed to, despite his current deal having two years left to run.

Henderson signed for Liverpool from Sunderland in an £18 million move in 2011, but experienced slow progress at the club in his first few years, with Brendan Rodgers going as far as to sanction a move to Fulham for the England international.

However he has proven Rodgers wrong this season and was an ever present until picking up a three match suspension for a late tackle on Samir Nasri in Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Manchester City.

He is set to return on Sunday as Liverpool look to keep their slim title hopes alive against Newcastle and is to be rewarded for his fine form with a new deal.

The former Sunderland man has created 60 chances this season, including seven assists, and has scored four Premier League goals for Rodgers’ side.
