Rumour: Manchester United in pole position to land Ilkay Gundogan as Borussia Dortmund target Shinji Kagawa

Manchester United have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, as the German giants target to re-sign out of favour attacker, Shinji Kagawa.

The Japanese midfielder moved to Manchester from Dortmund two seasons back, but has failed to settle in at Old Trafford so far. The 24-year old has played only 9 games in the league this season, with no goal or assist.

As the defending English champions look to offload the playmaker, Borussia Dortmund are said to be interested in handing Kagawa an emotional return to Germany, where he made his name as an upcoming talent.

David Moyes has been in the market for Ilkay Gundogan, and this will be the perfect opportunity for the Scot to land his transfer target, using Kagawa as bait. With the German international confirming his departure at the end of the season, a move to England might be in the reckoning.
