West Ham United are looking to entice the Southampton striker Rickie Lambert by doubling the star’s wages to £65,000 a week.

West Ham are facing tough times, as they languish in the drop zone in the Premier League. Record signing Andy Caroll has been out with injury and is yet to kick a ball this season. Other recognised striker, Modibo Maiga has failed to contribute, compounding problems for manager Sam Allerdyce.

The top level management are hoping to land Rickie Lambert whose goals could potentially save the sinking ship. The striker has been a star at St. Mary’s which earned him an England call up, and might well be on the plane to the World Cup.

However, he has been in and out of the side this season, after Southampton bought Italian forward Danny Osvaldo in a club record transfer deal.

The relegation fighting club will find it hard to convince the 31-year old to jump ship, despite offering a lucrative contract. They are set to face stiff resisttance from Southampton as well, who look to break into Europe this season.
