Russia goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev blinded by laser: Fabio Capello

A laser pointed at Igor Afinkeev’s face

Russian goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev was shown laser on his face which ultimately led to a goal scored by Algeria.

According to a television footage, Akinfeev’s face was shown a green laser light while he tried to stop a free kick by Yacine Brahimi of which Islam Slimani ultimately scored.

Russian Manager Fabio Capello was furious of the cheap trick and blasted the officials for ignoring the fact that they ignored such an unfair tactic which ultimately ousted Russia from the tournament.

“The goalkeeper was unable to do his job. The laser beam was in his face," said Russia manager Capello.

"He was blinded by the laser beam. It is not an excuse. There are pictures and you can see that in the footage."

Russia drew 1-1 with Algeria as they ended a disappointing campaign in the ongoing 2014 World Cup. Russia could garner only two points from three matches.
