Moscow, Nov 12 Russian Football Union (RFU) has no financial resources to pay the salary of their national team coach Fabio Capello, a senior sports official said Wednesday.

"I am telling you responsibly that RFU simply doesn't have the money to pay Capello his salary. It's inappropriate that the monetary allowance for the Russian national team's head coach is not being paid," Interfax news agency quoted RFU executive committee member Sergei Stepashin as saying, reports Xinhua.

Stepashin, who formerly worked as head of Russia's Audit Chamber, slammed the RFU for signing the contract with Capello without finding the resources for his $11 million annual salary in advance.

Meanwhile, he said the Italian should be paid based on the team's results, adding that "this is called the efficient use of money".

Under Capello's management, Russia have won only one of six competitive matches, being unable to beat FIFA outsiders Sweden and Moldova.

Capello was invited to train the team by RFU president Nikolai Tolstykh and sports minister Vitaly Mutko in 2012. He has not been paid since June. The financial situation in Russian football will be on the RFU meeting's agenda slated for Dec 16.
