RVP declines to pen new deal - a blessing in disguise for Arsenal?

I am pretty sure that my statement will raise some eyebrows. Arsenal failed to convince their captain to pen a new deal, once again. The same thing happened with Cesc Fabregas last year. For a big club like Arsenal this is unacceptable.

Robin Van Persie came out strong against Wenger and the Arsenal board for not showing enough ambition to win silverware. Arsenal unlike last season, have brought in fresh faces who are proven match winners – Podolski and Giroud.

If you don’t call this ambition then please tell me what is.

On the other hand, this situation can be a blessing in disguise. There is no one who would question his ability and skill. He was the best player of the premier league last season and deservingly won the awards too. Lets be honest and accept that his form dipped as season came to an end and in Euros too.

Also Persie is not what you call young. In a year, his age will be in his thirties. After being troubled by injuries for quite a few seasons, this was his first injury free season. The Dutchman has this uncanny ability to pick up injuries. If this would have happened at Arsenal then it would have been a disaster after paying him £130,000-a-week, plus a £5m signing-on fee. Arsenal does not enjoy the comfy cushion as that of title winners City. The want-away star is not exactly in middle of his prime. You can say that he is in the twilight of his career.

The sudden and shocking nature of the statement released by Persie even took Arsenal Football Club by surprise. The statement issued on the official website of Arsenal says that

“??We have to respect Robin’s decision not to renew his contract. Robin has one year to run on his current contract and we are confident that he will fulfil his commitments to the Club.”

“We are planning with ambition and confidence for next season with Arsenal’s best interests in mind.”

It indicates that the club is willing to let him go on a free transfer. This is unlikely to happen though. For Arsenal fans(including me), this is not the first time we are losing a star player.Although if he joins Nasri and co at City it would be unforgivable. But as Arsenal Fans we support the Club and not the individuals. And like always against all odds, contrary to the so called pundits who will bet anything on another trophy less year at the Emirates, Arsenal will rise and glory will be attained.

This is not the end,if anything this is a new beginning. The canon still has enough fire-power in it to demolish anyone.
