The game against Manchester City could decide United’s finishing position according to Giggs

Manchester United legend, Ryan Giggs is of the opinion that the Red Devils still have a decent chance of finishing in the Barclays Premier League top-four spot this season provided they beat Manchester City this weekend.

The two Manchester rivals are scheduled to face each other at Etihad on Sunday and after 29 game weeks, Manchester City are currently at the number four spot of the Premier League table with 51 points to their name, whereas their fierce city rivals languishing at the number seven spot four points behind Manuel Pellegrini's men.

Ryan Giggs, who is currently the assistant manager of Manchester United thinks that the Manchester City fixture is the most important one for the Red Devils in the recent past as it will surely decide United's fate in the 2016-17 edition of the UEFA Champions League.

The battle of the Manchester clubs

Manchester United can close the gap down to a single point if they emerge victorious against the Citizens at Etihad this weekend.

In an interview given to the official website of the Red Devils, Ryan Giggs said, “If we win (on Sunday), then we have a great chance of reaching that top four. If we don’t, then it will be very difficult for us.”

“Again, it’s a challenge. You’re going to your neighbours, you’re going to your local rivals. You’re a good team and you’re trying to win and trying to get further up the table. If I was playing, I’d be looking forward to this week. Two brilliant games- Liverpool at home and then City away. It’s a brilliant week to look forward to,” the ex-Manchester United midfielder added.

Ryan Giggs' former teammate at Old Trafford and the current head of coaching at the Manchester United youth academy, Nicky Butt has backed up his ex-colleague.

Speaking to Manchester United's website, Butt said, “They’re two games I used to look at as a player. I certainly used to look at them when I was on holiday and the fixtures used to come out for the league. They are the ones I look forward to and they’re two massive games at a massive time of the season.”

When asked about the Liverpool fixture, he added, “Let’s see what that brings. The first one against Liverpool is going to be a tough task, they have two goals on us, but it’s home advantage and I feel, at Old Trafford, with a night game, we’re just waiting for that magic to happen and it can at any time.”
