Ryan Tunnicliffe to feature for the first team next season?

Manchester United v Chelsea - FA Youth Cup Semi Final 2nd Leg

This time of year normally sees plenty of speculation over signings we might make, but also over which youngsters and reserve team players might be promoted to the first team and go on the pre-season tour. With our tour under two weeks away, it’s looking like Ryan Tunnicliffe may be one of those players to make the cut, and if Warren Joyce’s comments are true then he may even feature properly for the first team in the season ahead. Tunnicliffe and team mate Michael Keane have both been linked with loan moves away to Hull City, but reserve manager Warren Joyce has claimed only the latter is realistic because Tunnicliffe “may well be around the first team.”

Joyce said “There’s bound to be interest from the Championship as they both did well last year,” with Tunnicliffe impressing at Peterborough United while Keane lead United reserves to their league and cup double. “For sure he [Michael Keane] will go out on loan but Tunnicliffe may well be around the first team.” It seems as though Ferguson’s keen to give youngsters a go as early as possible, something he normally does – but was recently criticised for not doing by Paul Pogba. Either way, Tunnicliffe seems a decent prospect and has made it clear in the past that his ultimate aim is to make it at United. The squad for the pre-season tour, which is announced next week, will give an early indication over whether or not that’ll happen.
