Manchester United v Liverpool - Premier League

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes that the the race row between Patrice Evra and Luis Suarez has been consigned to the past.

Suarez received a £40,000 fine and an eight match ban after being found guilty for racially abusing Evra in October 2011, and it was aggravated four months later, in February 2012, when the Uruguayan star refused to shake Evra’s hand in the pre-match custom.

However, the two players put their bitterness behind when United visited Liverpool earlier this season, and the manager hopes that it has put an end to the issue.

There will always be a certain build-up to a Manchester United and Liverpool games,” Ferguson told reporters. “That’s simply because of the history between the two clubs, the two most successful in the country – it brings its own agenda in terms of profile and pre-match discussion.

He added, “Last year it was unfortunate with the Suarez behavior. But I think hopefully it’s behind both clubs now and we can just look forward to the game.”
