General Manager of Schalke Horst Heldt has revealed that Arsenal had lodged a formal bid for the 20-year old on more than one occasion, which includes January.

Heldt said that they received bids from the Gunners, which were big, but just not big enough, while also confirming that it was Schalke who prevented the German from moving to Arsenal.

“There was an official enquiry from Arsenal in winter, but we decided not to release him,” Herdt said.

“It was not the first time Arsenal had made a bid. It was a lot of money, but it wasn’t enough for us.”

He was further asked whether the reports of an offer from Bayern Munich were true or not, to which he replied: “No, definitely not.”

It is widely believed that Draxler has a £37 million buyout clause in his contract which enables him to move in the summer if activated.
