Scoring for national team is difficult: Lionel Messi

Leo Messi

Lionel Messi scores so many goals that Cristiano Ronaldo and he have put themselves in a completely different bracket altogether. The prolific Barcelona striker netted 62 goals this season, including 4 for Argentina in 8 appearances altogether for the national team.

However, only one of those 4 goals has come in the Copa America. It was a bit surprising to hear the superstar say scoring goals for the national side is a difficult task considering the rate at which he scores them.

Speaking after the penalty shootout win against Colombia, he said: “It’s incredible how difficult it is to score a goal for the national team.”

“We gave our best performance of the Copa America, creating chances all over the pitch, and luckily went through on penalties.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t score a goal and were lucky on penalties.”

His form for Barcelona hasn’t always carried over to his outings with La Albiceleste, but he has been influential for them since he took on the captain’s armband.

Nonetheless, when someone who is as prolific as the Argentine says something is difficult to do, you had better believe it.

Argentina’s win set’s up a delicious situation from the fans’ standpoint as they make it to the Copa America semifinal. The last quarterfinal is yet to be played between Paraguay and Brazil and the winner will face Tata Martino’s men.
