Éder Citadin Martins or popularly known as Eder is a Brazilian player who plays as a striker for the Serie A side Sampdoria. Ocassionally, he can also be deployed behind the striker as well as on the wings.
Profile
Eder spent most of his professional career in Italy after making his Serie A debut in 2006-07 season against Lazio while playing for Empoli. But it took him more than 3 years to register his name on the scoring charts in Serie A. While playing for Brescia, he scored against Parma which was eventually won by Brescia. The 2013-14 season was really a memorable one for him specially his performance against Udinese while playing for Sampdoria where he scored two goals and assisted the other to complete a 3-0 victory for the team.
Style, Strength and Weakness
Eder has the ability to dribble past players and is very comfortable on the ball. Further, while playing on the wings, he likes to cut inside the box and takes shots. Given his physical stature, he rarely goes into tackling.
His main strength includes taking shots from long ranges and his dribblling ability because of which he is likely to draw a number of fouls in or around the opposition’s penalty box. He also has the ability to unlock rigid defences through his trickery.
But despite all the strengths, he lacks physicality to become an allround striker and this has also been justified by the fact that he often loses aeriel duels. Further, his temperament in key games, especially against the bigger teams is also a thing of worry as he needlessly picks bookings. This was evident in the game against Inter Milan which Sampdoria lost 4-0, he picked two unnecessary bookings withing two minutes in the first half and was shown a red card. Once he keeps his temperament in check, he can be a true asset to his club.

Further, his passing accuracy is also close to 78% which is quite high for a player who spends a considerable amount of time in the opponent’s half. Transfer Situation
Eder is currently contracted to Sampdoria and is valued at 7 million euros. Given his ability to find the net, it would be a bargain at this price. Even though he has been linked to some clubs with a move, he is more than willing to stay at his current club. But the chance to play for a better club could see him move away from Sampdoria.
